Stop Unfair Child Support & Visitation Laws
Stop Unfair Child Support & Visitation Laws
The Issue
We as Non-custodial parents, not speaking of Dead Beats, are speaking up about the family court system and how current child support laws are doing more harm than good. Many Non-custodial parents are complaining that the system is set up in such a manner that Non-custodial parents are destined to fail. They claim that astronomical child support obligations are forcing them both into debt and out of their children’s lives.
With the amount of interest and late fees that are tacked onto child support obligations that have not been paid on time for whatever reason, small debts are accruing into out of hand dilemmas quickly. Those fathers who pay their support on time claim that the amounts usually ordered by the court are so high that the Non-custodial parent cannot afford to meet the obligation as well as their other financial obligations.
What should courts take into account when figuring out a child support obligation? Are the courts giving the non-custodial parents the short end of the stick?
In my situation, I pay child support out of my paycheck (which I don't have a complaint about), yet the mother ask for more, more, more and they grant this to her. When I ask to see my child, she says no. I have filed appeals with the courts and the only thing they are concerned about are the payments only. The mother makes 3-times more than I do, but the courts only base support off of my earnings and my childs needs to live. I barely bring home enough to buy food, pay utilities, gas, clothing etc.
I created this petition to send to our President Obama and to congress. A change needs to happen because it is not fair.
