Stop Trump’s Threat: Hands Off Argentina’s Election

Stop Trump’s Threat: Hands Off Argentina’s Election
The Issue
No country should be pressured into voting a certain way by a foreign power. But this week, President Donald Trump told Argentina that if they elect left-leaning leaders, the United States will cut off financial support.
Trump’s threat came during a meeting with Argentina’s President Javier Milei. Just days earlier, the U.S. had announced a $20 billion currency deal to help stabilize Argentina’s economy. Now President Trump says that if voters choose a different path in their upcoming elections, the support could disappear.
This is blatant interference in a sovereign country’s democracy.
The people of Argentina, like people anywhere, have the right to vote for the leaders they believe in without being punished by outside powers.
No one should have to worry that their vote could cost their country access to food, medicine, or basic financial stability.
We call on the U.S. State Department and Secretary of State to publicly reject this attempt to influence a foreign election. The United States should support democracy everywhere, not try to control it.
Tell President Trump and his administration: Let the people of Argentina choose their future freely — without threats, without pressure, and without strings attached.
