Stop Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination for the 2025 India–Pakistan Conflict

Stop Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination for the 2025 India–Pakistan Conflict
The issue
We, the undersigned, firmly oppose the nomination of U.S. President Donald J. Trump for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize in connection with the recent India–Pakistan conflict. This nomination is both factually incorrect and morally unjustified, for the following reasons:
1. Trump Played No Credible Role in Mediating Peace
The Indian government has explicitly denied U.S. involvement in the ceasefire, confirming it was the result of direct bilateral military dialogue.
Global analysts have described Trump’s claim of “brokering peace” as unsubstantiated and self-serving.
2. The Ceasefire Was Bilateral, Not Mediated
The May 10, 2025 ceasefire followed a dangerous military escalation but was attributed to India and Pakistan’s own diplomatic and military engagement, not U.S. mediation.
No evidence supports Trump’s claim of involvement in the negotiations.
3. Trump’s Role Is Disputed by Both Countries
While Pakistan’s military leadership nominated Trump, critics see this as political maneuvering, not a recognition of real diplomatic achievement.
India rejected his claims outright, reaffirming the conflict was de-escalated internally without U.S. input.
4. No Lasting Peace or Resolution Was Achieved
The flare-up was short-lived and no treaty, framework, or solution to Kashmir was produced.
Nobel laureates are typically recognized for sustained contributions to peace, not isolated or disputed claims.
5. Diplomatic Harm, Not Help
Trump’s public boasts about ending the conflict strained U.S.–India relations, casting doubt on America’s credibility as a neutral actor in the region.
Foreign policy experts warn that this kind of posturing undermines global diplomacy.
6. Nomination Rooted in Self-Promotion
Trump’s Nobel nomination followed a private meeting with Pakistan’s Army Chief—not the result of multilateral diplomacy or international recognition.
His follow-up posts and interviews have focused more on image-building than on any real peace process.
7. Lack of Neutrality and Impartiality
Effective mediators are neutral. Trump has been seen as aligned with one side of the conflict, with little trust or credibility from the other.
8. His Broader Track Record Opposes Peace Values
Trump’s foreign policy has included withdrawals from major peace agreements, military escalations, and divisive rhetoric.
The Nobel Peace Prize honors lasting, constructive diplomacy—not reactive, temporary ceasefires.
9. Promoting Peace at Home Also Matters
Trump’s presidency is marked by domestic unrest, including:
-The George Floyd protests, anti-ICE demonstrations, No Kings protests against his presidency and police crackdowns
-Inflammatory rhetoric targeting the media, political opponents, and immigrants.
-The January 6 Capitol riot, which many believe he incited or failed to prevent—a direct attack on democratic institutions.
Let’s Protect the Integrity of the Nobel Peace Prize
Awarding the Nobel Peace Prize under such disputed and misleading circumstances would undermine its legacy and insult those who have genuinely worked to create peace in the world.
We respectfully urge the Norwegian Nobel Committee to reject any consideration of Donald J. Trump for the 2025 prize in relation to the India–Pakistan conflict.
The Nobel Peace Prize should remain a symbol of truthful diplomacy, conflict resolution, and humanitarian courage—not a reward for political showmanship or unverified claims.
