I am a Grade 5 student in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  I was challenged to come up with a topic that affects biodiversity.  I decided to research trophy hunting.  I quickly realized how cruel Trophy Hunting is and decided to create a petition to Stop Trophy Hunting.

Trophy hunting is killing an animal for the sole purpose of entertainment. Many people who hunt wild animals for trophies do so to hang the animals’ bodies on their wall and to pose in photos. Trophy hunting should never be considered a sport, but it’s labeled as one since there is no other benefit to killing the animals.

There are some very scary facts about trophy hunting.

1) More than 125,000 animals are killed each year for trophies.  

2) The most popular animals to kill are the Big Five, which are lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalos.

3) Canned hunting is trophy hunting.  Canned hunting means that animals are bred to be shot and stuffed.  

4) Trophy hunting is animal cruelty!
