Stop Transit Overhaul - Winnipeg

Stop Transit Overhaul - Winnipeg
The Issue
Update as of 2025/06/29: The Winnipeg-Transit overhaul has been implemented, but the fight is not over yet...
Our city, Winnipeg, is on the verge of implementing a new transit system change in June, but keeping the current bus routes in place is essential for us. The proposed routes lead to more inconvenient transfers and travel times. This inconsistency particularly burdens people with disabilities, the elderly, and those who rely heavily on public transportation for their daily commutes.
Winnipeg's existing transit lines have served us well, offering seamless transport across various neighbourhoods and ensuring easy access to essential services. The proposed changes, however, will split the continuous routes, leading commuters to grapple with increased transfers, longer waiting times, and that of a downgraded system.
Many individuals rely on the predictability of our current system. Students commuting to universities, working parents balancing time-sensitive schedules, and elderly citizens attending medical appointments are all set to face disruptions. The proposed new system not only undermines these routines but also lacks accommodations for people with mobility challenges who find frequent transfers difficult.
One of the key features for this changing system was easier access to different neighbourhoods. But checking the new map, we see that it is still a necessity to commute downtown, before catching a now inconvenient transfer that you may have to walk quite a distance to.
Instead of scrapping our current transit lines, Winnipeg could focus on enhancing existing routes to improve efficiency and adding more buses to cut down waiting times. Consulting residents extensively about potential consequences and examining real-life commuting experiences is crucial before implementing such a massive change.
By signing this petition, you are supporting our community's need for a reliable, inclusive, and accommodating public transit system that reflects the needs of all its residents. Let’s urge the city to keep our current bus routes intact until thorough community consultation and impact assessments are appropriately conducted. Sign now and help secure a considerate transition process that prioritizes everyone’s needs in Winnipeg!
