The willow oil project,  is a decadeslong oil drilling venture in the National Petroleum Reserve, which is owned by the federal government. The area where the project is planned holds up to 600 million barrels of oil, though that oil would take years to reach the market since the project has yet to be constructed.  The Biden administration was limited by legal restraints in reviewing the Willow oil project, according to a White House official who said the company had valid rights on the land because of decades-old leases. In my opinion I think the willow oil project should be stopped because it is hurting helpless animals and the environment with gas and toxins that are deadly enough to make all of the animals that live in alaska go extinct over the next decade. The Willow project will add 239 million metric tons of Carbon emissions to the atmosphere over the next 30 years equivalent to the annual emissions of 64 coal-fired power plants. Environmental organizations have called it a “carbon bomb” in addition to concerns about a fast warming arctic groups are also concerned that the willow oil project will destroy habitat for the native species and alter migration patterns of animals including the caribou. If the willow project is moved ahead it will be the largest single oil and gas project on  federal lands in the country. The conocophillips’ willow project would create up to a third of the emissions created from all the coal plants across the country.
