The Issue

Living in Teal Briar, my family and I have cherished the quiet and peaceful community that we call home. However, with the proposed parking lot and driveway access planned on SugarLand Howell Road, this tranquillity is at risk. Situated directly behind my home, this development poses a direct threat to the safety and security of the residents in both Teal Briar and Dover communities.

This parking lot and driveway access project, spearheaded by West Keegans Bayou Improvement District, claims to improve accessibility and provide additional parking space. However, it seems completely unnecessary, given the availability of alternative sites and existing spaces that could be repurposed without causing harm to residential areas.

According to local planning guidelines, projects such as this should prioritize the environmental and social well-being of the community. Implementing a parking lot in our neighborhood not only disrupts our daily lives but also poses potential environmental risks. Increased traffic, noise pollution, and potential damage to green spaces are just a few of the adverse impacts this project could bring.

Statistics from similar projects suggest that enhanced traffic flow in residential zones often leads to increased accidents and a surge in crime rates. This is an unacceptable risk for us and our children who play in these safe spaces. Further research demonstrates that once such projects are established, reversing them or mitigating their impacts can be challenging and costly.

We urge the West Keegans Bayou Improvement District to reconsider this project and seek feasible alternatives that do not infringe upon the lives of community members. We propose a comprehensive review involving environmental impact assessments and open discussions with affected residents. Exploring other locations for parking spaces, such as nearby commercial zones or undeveloped areas, could provide a sound solution without compromising community welfare.

Protect our neighborhood from unnecessary disruption and potential harm. Let’s work together to preserve the charm and safety of Teal Briar and Dover. Please sign this petition to halt the West Keegans Bayou ID parking lot and access driveway project on SugarLand Howell Road.
