Stop the Warehouse! Keep our Kleinburg Community Safe, Quiet and Livable!
The Issue
We are calling on Mayor Steven Del Duca and Councillors Marilyn Iafrate/Adriano Volpentesta to preserve and protect our beautiful New Kleinburg community from the development of a two-storey cold storage warehouse located at 6611 Major Mackenzie Drive West (across from McDonalds at Major Mackenzie Dr/Barons St).
This proposal, submitted by Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited (CPKC) and managed by Weston Consulting, seeks to build a MASSIVE 234, 000+ sq foot two-storey cold storage warehouse (with plans to expand three additional phases for an EXTRA 251,000+ sq foot ).
This development will significantly impact our residential community and we call on Mayor Steven Del Duca and the council to not approve the nature of this land use for phase 2, 3 and 4. The lands are currently not zoned for the entire CPKC cold storage facility (due to the size of this project) and would require amendments to both the Official Plan and Zoning By-law.
The impacts to the New Kleinburg community and upcoming neighboring residential community at Timber Creek Blvd will be catastrophic. Cold storage logistics generate significant transport truck volumes.
Concerningly, these trucks will use the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive and Barons St to access the warehouse. This will heavily impact local traffic flow and safety in our community. The commercial plaza and McDonalds located at this intersection is a popular hang out spot for all members of our local and surrounding residential communities.
Additional impacts to our community will involve noise pollution, light pollution, visual impacts, stress on the local infrastructure and pedestrian safety.
The New Kleinburg community currently has two schools: Pope Francis Catholic Elementary School and Tanya Khan Elementary School that bus students daily. Pedestrian and local traffic at the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive and Barons St will not be protected if this warehouse is approved to operate at this intersection. We request that the warehouse truck traffic is not permitted to operate at this intersection.
