The Issue

We, the residents of Harbour Lane in Hurricane, West Virginia, are facing a critical decision that directly impacts our community's character, safety, and property values. When we chose to invest in our homes, we did so with the firm expectation that the area's zoning restrictions would protect our way of life. Now, AB Holding LLC's request to grant variances for height requirements, parking, and lot dimensional standards, along with rezoning from R1 to R2 for the 4.92-acre property at 370 Harbour Lane, threatens that foundational promise.

The implications of these changes are significant. Rezoning from R1 to R2 will pave the way for increased density in an area that is unequipped to handle it. The current infrastructure, particularly the roads owned and maintained by the West Virginia Division of Highways (WV DOH), is already facing challenges. Increasing the burden on Harbour Lane's roads will exacerbate existing conditions, leading to more traffic, possible road degradation, and heightened safety risks to our families, especially children.

Moreover, the shift away from the existing zoning restrictions will likely diminish property values for current homeowners. Our investment and life's work in making a home here would be undermined by these changes. This is more than a legal formality; it is about people, their homes, and their future.

We believe that the City of Hurricane should stand by its existing zoning regulations and deny AB Holding LLC's requests. There is no logical reason to grant these variances, particularly when the current road issues are beyond the city’s direct control. Our community infrastructure cannot be compromised.

We urge the decision-makers at the City of Hurricane to carefully consider the long-term impacts of permitting these variances and rezoning. The integrity of our community depends on maintaining the current zoning restrictions that have served us until now.

Please, stand with us in preserving our neighborhood's character and safety by signing this petition to stop the rezoning and variances proposed for 370 Harbour Lane. Every signature could make the difference in ensuring our voices are heard and our way of life protected.
