STOP the Vancouver AI Data Centre from being built.
STOP the Vancouver AI Data Centre from being built.
The Issue
ASK THE CITY, AND PROVINCE, TO STOP THE AI CENTRE PLANNED FOR VANCOUVER BEING BUILT.
In early May, residents of the Lower Mainland were warned of fines for using our sprinklers or hoses to water our gardens, amid Stage 2 water restrictions; a measure linked directly to the pressing water conservation needs in our region. Simultaneously, across the province, the signs of forest fire risks are escalating. Shockingly, amidst these critical water restrictions and environmental warnings, plans are moving forward to establish an AI centre in Vancouver, B.C., that threatens to consume a staggering 55,000 - 70,000litres of water every day for its operational cooling processes.
Families in Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, and Vancouver, alongside countless others across Vancouver Island and the interior of British Columbia, are already feeling the financial burden as we grapple with increased water bills. Numerous homes are being mandated to install water metres, and we're being conscientious about every drop of water we use, while across the border, Americans are contending with soaring electricity bills to share the load of resource conservation.
The plan to allow this AI centre unrestricted access to such a vast amount of water is wildly irresponsible. How can PM Mark Carney say he cares about Canadians and building sustainable futures and jobs for us while allowing tech-billionaires in other countries to destroy our drinking water, and send our money out of the province?
Help our provincial and federal governments NO, to unethical and unsustainable AI and the environmental disaster it brings.
