Knox County Schools:Invest in Reusable Lunch Trays

The Issue

I really think the Knox County schools need to invest in reusable lunch trays instead of using styrofoam lunch trays everyday. If you think about how much trash cans fill up with the styrofoam lunch trays every day it’s a lot, and that is just one day out of the school year. Think about that but at almost every school in America that’s a ton of waste everyday. If we start getting reusable lunch trays in Knox County other schools outside of Knox County will hopefully see what we’re doing and start doing it and so on. Styrofoam takes up about 30% of the space in landfills. Styrofoam takes about 500 years to go away once in the landfill. When the styrofoam doesn’t make it to the landfill it will usually end up in a body of water. It is especially dangerous for marine animals that eat the styrofoam. It can lead to blockages and tears in their digestive systems releasing toxins and killing the animal that eats it. Sign right now to take this environmentally dangerous waste out of our lunch rooms. Let’s do our part to help the planet!
