The new cricket pitch being pushed by the Major of tower hamlets is extremely dangerous for local residents as the barely 10m from two main paths through the park.
Here's an excerpt from an injured resident in Battersea, who was beyond the perimeter of the pitch
In August 2014, the Claimant was walking through Battersea Park in London along a path within close proximity of a small cricket pitch. After hearing a shout warning of a ball heading in her direction, she turned her head and was struck on the eye by the ball, causing serious injury. [1]
Due to the citing of this new pitch so existing paths fall within the its boundaries, it seems fair to assume worse injuries to occur.
Local residents especially ones with young children who enter the Victoria Park from St Mark's Gate will now have avoid the new Cricket Pitch being built there.
Cricket is an incredibly antisocial use of space as young children can get life changing injuries from a huge radius from the centre of the pitch.
This is an injury a woman received from a cricket ball in her own garden beyond the pitch boundaries.[2]
I want to stop Tower Hamlets Mayor building a second cricket pitch in Victoria Park by St Marks Gate, as there's already a cricket pitch and it's dangerous for families.
Especially during summer when Lido Festival / All Points East Festival is on local families are forced into the side areas normally for dog walkers.
Now is the time to act as it's not yet finished, and it'll only get worse with all our park's leisure time being dominated by a minority interest group.
