As residents of North Lanarkshire we are facing an unjust council tax increase. Our local council has raised the council tax to 10%. This is a direct result of many years' financial mismanagement and poor decisions by North Lanarkshire Council. We, the hard-working citizens, are being asked to bear the burden of their mistakes.

This issue is personal for every single resident. It’s totally unjust that struggling families are having to foot the bill during a time where we are living through a cost of living crisis. We are on track for one of the highest council tax increases in all of Scotland.  In return, we will receive a reducing level of service and more financial mismanagement from our local authority.  Over recent years we have already seen the closure of multiple valued services and amenities including many school bus routes, Kilbowie residential facility, local community centres/leisure facilities and also more recently the introduction of brown bin uplift charges! 

The council's increase isn't due to us citizens but rather their own actions. It is unacceptable that we should pay for their mistakes while they continue with business as usual and on inflated salaries, many of them are not themselves residents of North Lanarkshire so this rise and these service cuts do not affect their own households! We urge you to join us in voicing our discontent against this unfair tax increase which only serves to punish.
