Stop the Unjust Eviction of ARC Clients From 873 Waverley

The Issue

6 months ago clients of Aurora Recovery Centre moved into condos at 873 Waverley St. These clients have already completed their in-treatment programming and were ready to reunite with their families and live independently. To help with the adjustment period Aurora staff come in and check on the clients and offer support and counselling.

But it was because of this support that the condo board attempted to evict them, stating that Aurora was operating a business out of the condos. We at Aurora feel that this is not the case and that these clients receive support similar to home care or any other assistance service. We do not have offices in the building and the clients are responsible for the rent and upkeep of their homes. We believe this eviction is based on the stigma around addiction and that if we were offering any other type of health care support it would be a non-issue.

The clients at these condos are respectful clean and quiet, and they are just looking for a fair chance to rebuild their lives after undergoing treatment. The condos are not being used as a rehab or as a detox but as a final stage in the reunification of families and a re-entry into independence.

In light of this, we demand an immediate intervention to stop the eviction process and protect the rights of these individuals to receive the treatment they need without fear of displacement. Every signature counts and will help in increasing the chances of these voices being heard. Sign the petition now to halt the eviction of Aurora Recovery Centre's diligent and dedicated clients.
