Incident:

This call for action is specifically directed towards The California Department of Fish and Wildlife to STOP the efforts to euthanize a mother bear in Tuolumne County Ca, who instinctively stood her ground as a 24 year old man was jogging near her cub. The mama bear instincts was to to protect her cub and manage to chase after the man, scratching him, mostly on his back. Fortunately, the mother bear did not kill anyone.

Planned Euthanization:

Yet, this mama bear now faces needless euthanization as The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) confirmed that the bear will be euthanized once caught, as it matches their policy for animals that injure humans. Captain Patrick Foy stated that the bear had no prior record of aggression and seemed to come out of nowhere. (Really?) The CDFW has set up traps and obtained a DNA profile of the bear.

Controversy Over Euthanization:

Ann Bryant, Director of the Bear League, expressed concerns about euthanizing the bear, suggesting that it was simply protecting its cub. She advocates for more research into the bear's behavior and consideration of alternative solutions.

My thoughts:

This distressing circumstance touches me personally, as a member of the community that coexists with these beautiful creatures. I believe that our policies regarding such situations can and should be more balanced, fostering mutual respect between humans.

Over recent years, challenges for the bear population in our area have drastically increased due to human encroachments and rampant wildfires, shrinking their habitats alarmingly. According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, this pressure has led to increased encounters between bears and humans, particularly in residential areas. Yet the California bear population is already dangerously low, with only 30,000-40,000 black bears remaining.

Our Action:

We must stop this needless euthanization and develop better policies to handle similar situations in the future. Reducing and managing conflict between humans and bears requires understanding, tolerance and some simple changes to our behavior to take into account the needs of these animals. This petition urges the relevant authorities to revoke the decision to euthanize our mother bear. It’s time to put all of our voices together and respect our cohabiting wildlife. It's time to say, let the mama bear live!

Sign this petition to show your support for a more compassionate approach to wildlife management.

Thank you: 🤎

Today, let’s stand up together to save her life! Thank you!
