Stop the Unjust Deportation of the Oluwakemi Oyekanmi Family
Stop the Unjust Deportation of the Oluwakemi Oyekanmi Family
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call on the Irish authorities to immediately halt the deportation of Ms Titilayo Oluwakemi Oyekanmi and her three sons, Samuel, Joseph and Genesis, and to grant this family permission to remain in Ireland on humanitarian grounds.
The Oyekanmi family arrived in Ireland in late 2023 seeking safety and a chance to rebuild their lives in dignity. They have since become part of our community, with the boys attending school and building friendships and support networks here. Deporting the family now would uproot children who have begun to integrate, learn and thrive, and would expose them once again to the insecurity and hardship they were seeking to escape.
Ireland prides itself on compassion, fairness and respect for family life. Removing this family from a place where they are safe, supported and contributing contradicts these values and risks inflicting serious emotional and psychological harm on the children involved. It also sends a chilling message to other vulnerable families who look to this country for protection.
We therefore respectfully call on the Minister for Justice and the responsible authorities to:
1. Immediately suspend any deportation order against the Oyekanmi family.
2. Conduct a thorough, humane review of their case, taking full account of the best interests of the children, their integration into Irish society and any risks they may face if removed.
3. Grant the family permission to remain in Ireland, allowing the children to continue their education and the family to live in safety and stability.
By signing this petition, we urge the Irish Government to act with urgency and compassion, uphold Ireland’s human rights commitments, and allow the Oluwakemi Oyekanmi family to stay.
