STOP THE UNFAIR TREATMENT OF CHILDREN IN THAILAND

STOP THE UNFAIR TREATMENT OF CHILDREN IN THAILAND
The issue
Since 2020, young people in Thailand have been treated unfairly and detained for their peaceful protests. These protests originally stemmed from protesting about democratic reform but have flourished into ideas regarding education, women's rights and even LGBTQ+ rights.
Over 280 children and teenagers have been targeted by officials in the past four years. These children just want the same rights that those in other parts of the world have. They need to have better quality education, they need to have women's’ rights and they need to have safer schools.
Children are allowed to protest peacefully because The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights (UDHR) states ‘Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression’.
These children are being accused and punished unreasonably. These children are having their voices ripped away from them. They are trying to contribute to their society for the better but are instead being silenced by the government.
Our goal is to spread awareness about this issue in hopes that our New Zealand foreign affairs ministers, Winston Peters, will inform the Thai government that New Zealand disapproves with their current attitude towards Children's Rights in Thailand.
