PETITION: Stop the Unfair Rate Hike at Chinguacousy Winter Tennis Centre: Keep Public Recreation Accessible

We, the residents and taxpayers of Brampton, oppose the proposed fee increases at the Sandra Hames Tennis Centre(Chinguacousy Winter Bubble), including a court fee increase from approximately $16.36 to $24.54 per hour(~$28 with tax per hour), a nearly 50% jump in a single season.

Public recreation facilities exist to provide affordable, accessible services to the community, not to compete with private, for-profit clubs. Brampton residents already fund these facilities through their property taxes and should not be priced out of the programs they support.

Residents have repeatedly asked for a transparent explanation of why such a significant increase is necessary when city’s operational budget for Community services has increase only by ~10%. How did they arrive at this cost analysis, benchmarking methodology, and whether similar increases are being applied across other City recreation services. To date, those questions remain unanswered.

We Call on Brampton City Council to:

1. Pause the fee increase until meaningful public consultation takes place.

2. Publish the full financial rationale and methodology used to justify the increase.

3. Preserve affordable, subsidized public recreation by maintaining rates consistent with the City's public service mandate, not private club pricing.

Public recreation should remain accessible to everyone, including families, seniors, students, and residents on fixed incomes.

Sign this petition to keep winter tennis affordable and accessible for all Brampton residents.
