The Issue

Like many others, I find myself unjustly burdened by a decision enforced by The Lake Mohawk Country Club demanding every member household to contribute financially to the Manitou Island bridge repairs—a project costing an astronomical $7.6 million over three years. This demand translates to an unwelcome increase of $2,770 in our dues over this period. The announcement came via an email, stating that a vote had supposedly passed in November 2025, giving a green light to this financial burden. But this approval was not unanimous, certainly not mine.

Living on a modest budget, my family and I, like many others, are struggling to make ends meet. These financial decisions, made without consensus, profoundly impact families like ours and neglect the foundational principle of fairness by imposing unnecessary fiscal pressure. Importantly, I do not use, nor can I afford to live on, Manitou Island—yet I'm financially tethered to its maintenance.

The financial obligations of maintaining our club's facilities must reflect thoughtful consideration of all its members, especially those for whom this bridge holds no personal or practical interest. We ask that the Board of Trustees of The Lake Mohawk Country Club reconsider this decision. Provide alternative funding solutions, or initiate a more inclusive voting process that genuinely reflects all members' opinions and respects their financial capabilities.

Let's uphold the community values we cherish and advocate for fairness and transparency in our financial responsibilities. Please, stand with us by signing this petition to urge our board to listen, reevaluate, and act justly.
