Stop the UCPs anti-2SLGBTQIA+ policy.

Stop the UCPs anti-2SLGBTQIA+ policy.
The Issue
Recently on the “Global News” podcast show “ Your Province Your Premier '' Danielle Smith announced a new bill to be rolled out next week in the Legislature outlining pronoun and name policy changes that would specifically target 2SLGBTQQIA+ children and how they choose to identify at schools across the province under the guise of “parental rights'' along with a video outlining the specifics in her policy, it includes:
Bans on Trans students in their genders sport
Outing students across K-12 classes before using their chosen pronoun/name
Ban on Gender affirming care for Students Under 15
Ban on hormone therapy and puberty blockers for children under 17
These are all things that are protected federally and that are essential for the well-being of Trans/non-binary youths' mental health and development. In her video she said “irreversible decisions” but under Canadian law, no child gets hormone reassignment surgery under the age of 18 and only in situations where doctors, healthcare professionals, and parents along with a psychologist for anyone 16 or 17 have to have all these things before they can receive that surgery. Needless to say in Canada, a study was done with over 8,000 students and only 1% regretted their decision to transition, women on the other hand have a 4% regret rate after having children! And contrary to public belief, scientifically, puberty blockers are 100% irreversible. When asked about consultations and broader community engagement she assured the host '' We have consulted broadly and within our caucus” but since then multiple agencies including ATA (Alberta Teachers’ Association,) the “Alberta School Councils’ Association” and dozens of Queer organizations across the province have spoken out. The consensus is that there were no consultations with the organizations working with these children. As upsetting as this is, it is not surprising. We have anticipated our Government to follow in both Saskatchewan's and New Brunswick's suit in attacking Queer students' rights. Policies, we may add, that is being challenged in court for potentially overriding the “Charter of Rights and Freedoms' and children's protected rights to “Bodily Autonomy “.
None of this is new, we have seen the direction the United States has gone with over half of their states collectively introducing over 550 anti-2SLGBTQIA+ laws that attack anything and everything around the Queer community. But one of her worst mistakes was letting us know beforehand what she planned on introducing. This bill, if passed, would harm 100s of 2SLGBTQIA+ Children across the province and upheave an already fragile balance of acceptance and inclusion in this province. We hope with this petition the Alberta Government will see firsthand the amount of people who are against such harmful policies but also the amount of love, acceptance and diversity that flows freely in this province for 2SLGBTQIA+ people.
Please write your Representatives, contact local Pride agencies, donate to local activists and organizations standing up for the rights of Queer people across the country. The fight to ensure we are protected and safe here, in the place we call home is vital to the growth and health of this community! Stand up and let Danille Smith no there's
"NO SPACE FOR HATE" in this province!!
