The Export Import (Ex-Im) Bank is the official export credit agency of the United States and offers loans and insurance to U.S. companies wanting to do business abroad.

It also finances the destruction of our global climate system.

Despite widespread opposition, the Ex-Im Bank has already made the controversial decision to finance the massive Sasan coal power plant and mine in India, which will be one of the largest in the world.

Now, on the heels of this decision, activists all around the globe are protesting its plans to fund the Kusile plant in South Africa. The plant will spew greenhouse gas emissions and endanger the health and air quality of all nearby. Profits from the plant would largely benefit global corporations, rather than impovershed South Africans.

Developing countries clearly need more energy to increase standard of living. But rich countries should facilitate clean, renewable development that benefits local economies and the public health of the planet. What's more, the Ex-Im Bank has for the last 7 years failed to meet existing Congressionally-mandated minimums for financing renewable energy and energy efficienty projects.
