Stop the Truck Stop in Larkspur, CO

Stop the Truck Stop in Larkspur, CO
The Issue
Larkspur Colorado is a beautiful small mountain community known for it’s breathtaking scenery, abundant wildlife, and being the site of the annual Colorado Renaissance Festival. Residents enjoy the feeling of being “away” from everything, but enjoy the benefits of being centrally located between Denver and Colorado Springs, with the added benefit of only being minutes away from Castle Rock.
Unfortunately, a planned development of a Travel Centers of America truck stop is underway…the completion of which will have catastrophic effects on our abundant local wildlife, residents, and town as a whole.
Logistically, the three acre proposed site is grossly inadequate to support parking for the 50-60 semi tractor-trailers, restaurant, and other additional amenities that normally accompany the aforementioned “travel center”.
in addition to the environmental impact, there is also the issue of inadequate infrastructure to support the dramatic increase in traffic that will be created from the regular influx of 80’ long vehicles, entering said “travel center”, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In addition to the aforementioned congestion, there is also a regularly populated railroad crossing that will add to the aforementioned congestion when trucks attempt to continue their journey on south I 25. In addition, in the town of Larkspur, there is a very busy Emergency Response Unit/Fire station, that will also be obstructed by the aforementioned congestion, potentially resulting in loss of life and real property.
Discussion of this project initially was to be a small travel oasis, with a restaurant, and potentially gas pumps. Egregious overreaching on the part of the developer has resulted in the current proposal.
Please sign this petition to STOP THE TRUCK STOP. Allowing this developer to complete this project will not only kill our wildlife, but also an area that by many is considered a national treasure. https://kdvr.com/news/local/residents-of-larkspur-start-petition-to-stop-construction-of-proposed-truck-stop/?fbclid=IwAR2mgSgqobKV6BJpXfwB58A071bjb94aKTNKPSDgNeSfRLWHY-iTJE4lfac&mibextid=Zxz2cZ
