Stop the Transition to Block Scheduling with 6 periods in LWSD

The Issue

As a student deeply affected by the proposed changes in LWSD, I urge the masses to understand and empathize with my plight and that of my peers. The proposed shift to block scheduling drastically increases the length of individual classes. This extended time in a single class diminishes our engagement and attentiveness, negatively affecting our absorption of educational content and potentially our academic performance.

On another note, nationally, 75% of high schools utilize a 7-period schedule rather than a 6 period blocked schedule (National Center for Education Statistics). Our current traditional schedule lets us match our peers from coast-to-coast on a level playing field as we vie for college admissions. Deviating from this tradition inadvertently puts us at a disadvantage, making it harder for us to compete with the national talent pool.

LWSD administrators and decision-makers, I urge you to reconsider. Listen to your students, examine empirical evidence, and render a decision that fosters a learning environment that equips us to compete nationally. Sign this petition to stop the block scheduling transition in LWSD and protect our chances for a successful future.
