If you are concerned about the environmental impact of the proposed racetrack in Burswood, then this is YOUR OPPORTUNITY to let the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) know, so they can conduct a full assessment.

The deadline for submissions to the EPA is 9 October.

When providing your submission, please consider the EPA's key principles alongside your response, for maximum effect. A sample is provided for you below, IF you need some inspiration:

1. The Precautionary Principle
The racetrack could cause serious, possibly permanent damage to Burswood Park and the Swan River foreshore. This includes noise, pollution, loss of open space, and a decline in community enjoyment. Even if we don’t yet know the full extent of the damage, the precautionary principle says we must act carefully. A Public Environmental Review (PER) would properly assess these risks before any irreversible decisions are made.
2. The Principle of Intergenerational Equity
Burswood Park is a special green space, protected for both today’s community and future generations. Turning parts of it into a racetrack would reduce its natural, cultural, and recreational value. We have a responsibility to protect the park so future generations can enjoy it too. Only a PER can fully examine the long-term impacts of this proposal.
3. The Conservation of Biological Diversity and Ecological Integrity
The Burswood foreshore is part of the Swan Canning Riverpark, home to many plants and animals. Racetrack construction, noise, vibration, and pollution could harm this environment and disrupt the balance of the river system. A PER would require the developer to explain how they would protect biodiversity and ecological integrity, with full public oversight.
4. Principles Relating to Improved Valuation, Pricing and Incentive Mechanisms
This project carries many hidden costs — like health impacts from noise and air pollution, extra pressure on emergency services, environmental cleanup, and the loss of public access and cultural value. Without a PER, these costs may be ignored, leaving the community to pay while the developer profits. A full review ensures these costs are properly identified and considered in decision-making.

For all these reasons, I respectfully request that the EPA assess the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct proposal for Burswood at the highest level — Public Environmental Review — so all environmental, health, and community impacts are fully examined in line with the EPA’s core principles.
