However, this idyllic environment is now under threat. Increasingly, we see plans to build more condominium and apartment units in areas not originally zoned for such developments. What was once a tranquil residential town is rapidly morphing into a congested urban landscape.

The impact of this development is palpable. Our schools are bursting at the seams, struggling to accommodate more students than they were designed for. Our utilities are stretched thin, and local roads are choked with traffic—a constant reminder of the town's infrastructural limits. With every added vehicle and new resident, our sense of community dwindles. It's hard to recognize the East Lyme we fell in love with.

Furthermore, these changes are made at the expense of prior zoning laws, often shuffling the regulations to favor private builders' interests instead of the community's welfare. This not only affects the aesthetic value of our town but also hinders our quality of life through increased noise and decreased safety.

I urge the East Lyme town council to halt any further approvals of high-density housing projects. Let us prioritize sustainable development that respects our infrastructure's capacity while maintaining the town's character.
