Petition updateStop the Tower in EvanstonNo Formal Submission Yet: Still Time for Us to Rally
Vanishing Evanston
Sep 15, 2017
Hello everyone, In just 8 days more than 800 people have signed this petition to stop the "Tower." I think this reflects a groundswell against this proposed development. It's amazing and energizing! I don't want to inundate people with updates. I have been waiting to see the proposal appear in the City of Evanston channels. In my last update, I relayed my efforts to find information. Rather than bury the lead, here is the gist: According to the Evanston Zoning Office, as of today, Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, no formal application for this development has yet been submitted to the city. So it is a continued waiting game. This allows for us to figure out next steps, get organized, and continue to gather signatures. I will post updates of planned events and scheduled meetings as soon as I learn of them. In the meantime, other anti-development efforts could use help: Another Sherman Ave. development (the "Albion") was approved by the Plan Commission this week and goes to the Planning & Development Committee on October 9, 2017 at 7:15 p.m. in the James C. Lytle Council Chambers, Lorraine Morton Civic Center. See the coverage in the Daily Northwestern: https://dailynorthwestern.com/2017/09/14/city/plan-commission-approves-proposal-new-apartment-tower/ There is quite a lot of opposition to this development. Some primary issues: it does not meet zoning requirements, does not have enough parking, and is not affordable (Rents start at $1500 for a small studio and the "high-end" apartment rental fees have not been revealed by developers.) See Evanstonians for Responsible Planning on Facebook to follow and voice your opinion--whatever that may be! https://www.facebook.com/responsibleplanning847/ Thank you all for signing and commenting!
