Vanishing Evanston

Sep 12, 2017
Hello everyone!
Thank you all for signing this petition. We are making our voices heard and banding together to stop an ill-conceived, massive development that threatens to destroy local business and damage the fabric of Evanston's community.
The development is NOT yet scheduled to be discussed by the City of Evanston's Plan Commission. Read below for details. I will be sure to notify people when the development project comes up for public comment. In the meantime, please share our petition so that when it does come up, we have it ready to go with lots of signatures.
The City of Evanston's Plan Commission meets tomorrow, Wednesday, September 13 at 7pm at the Civic Center at 2100 Ridge. While the Tower development is not on the agenda, there is another development that will be open to public comment: The "Albion" development, which is proposed for the site where Tommy Nevins and Prairie Moon are currently. The petition opposing that mega development has 1,283 signatures. People are encouraged to attend the meeting tomorrow to oppose that development. I think it's also good to attend to express our concern about these proposed mega-developments that seem to be multiplying recently.
The next Plan Commission meeting is scheduled for October 11, 2017. (Although additional meetings can be scheduled.) I will try to keep up with the agendas (they don't make it easy to find information, I must say).
Here are the details concerning my efforts to find out when the Tower development will be discussed.
On Sept. 11, 2017, I messaged Mayor Stephen Hagerty to ask when this project will come before the City Council. He responded: "the info is posted on the City's website. The link below will have all applicable dates. I think next mtg on this project is 9/13. " Here is the link he sent: https://www.cityofevanston.org/government/departments/community-development/planning-zoning/proposed-planned-development-projects.
That link doesn't include the "tower" development. So I emailed 9th Ward Alderwoman Cecily Flemming. Her response: "I believe it won't be before council for some time, if memory serves, it's still in planning/zoning."
I will keep everyone updated on when it is coming up in front of the Plan Commission. The Plan Commission will make a recommendation prior to the City Council voting yes or no on it. Two-thirds of the council must vote yes for it to go forward. So that Plan Commission meeting is vital since that is when public comment is allowed.
Please keep sharing this petition and if you can make the meeting tomorrow, that would be great!
Thank you again for signing the petition. The comments that everyone wrote eloquently sum up the many reasons to oppose this development.
