Stop the Tech Encroachment: If Vernal is the Target Today, Your Backyard is Next Tomorrow!

The Issue

To: The Uintah County Commissioners, Utah State Regulators, and Big Tech Developers.
Right now, a line is being drawn in the high desert of Vernal, Utah. Behind closed doors, powerful tech interests and corporate developers are moving to plant massive, resource-draining data centers right in our communities. They look at our quiet towns, our open spaces, and our local infrastructure and see nothing but cheap power, land to swallow, and raw materials to exploit for the artificial intelligence arms race.
But this isn't just happening in Vernal. A quiet, aggressive land grab is sweeping across the entire state of Utah.
Look at what is happening right now:
• Uintah and Duchesne Counties are facing massive new data center footprints, threatening the resources of the Uinta Basin.
• Box Elder County just approved a gargantuan, 40,000-acre project that will consume more power than the entire state of Utah currently uses.
• Millard County is being targeted for massive computing campuses built alongside heavy industrial power plants.
From the Wasatch Front to the most rural corners of our state, the appetite of Big Tech is voracious and unstoppable. To power the cloud, these facilities require staggering amounts of electricity and water—resources that are already strained in our drought-stricken region. When they outgrow one county, or strip it of its resources, they don't stop. They encroach. They expand. They look for the next quiet, unsuspecting piece of America to plant their industrial mega-complexes.
This petition is a warning flare for every single community across this country.
If we don't stand up and stop this overreach in Vernal and across Utah today, we are giving them a green light to do it anywhere. Look around your own neighborhood, your own fields, and your own valley. If it isn't your backyard today, it will be your backyard tomorrow. Your utility bills, your water security, and your peace of mind will be the next things on their chopping block.
We cannot allow the identity and resources of rural communities to be sacrificed for corporate profit. We demand an immediate halt to the fast-tracked approvals of these data centers, total transparency regarding utility contracts, and a full, independent evaluation of how these facilities will impact our local power grids and water supplies.
Stand with Vernal and rural Utah today. Protect your own backyard tomorrow. Sign the petition.
