Dear supporter
Yesterday, Helensburgh Community Council was out in force in Colquhoun Square chatting to passers-by about the proposed supermarket development on Helensburgh's waterfront and encouraging them to sign the petition opposing the initiative.
Over 450 people added their names, bringing us within a whisker of 4000 signatures. This is a phenomenal show of opposition to the supermarket proposals.
Can you share the petition with friends, family and neighbours and help us hit 4000 this week?
Many people hadn't heard about the supermarket proposals on the waterfront before and were horrified at the idea of building a supermarket on this prime location. People shared how they enjoy going there for the view, for some peace and quiet, and to relax with friends and family.
We also spoke to several visitors who had come to Helensburgh to enjoy a day out by the sea and said this would be ruined with a supermarket development.
We heard considerable support for the skatepark remaining on the waterfront, with one family after another, sharing how much their children enjoyed this accessible and safe location in the heart of our town.
Here's a date for your diary - please join us at the proposed supermarket site, in front of the leisure centre, at midday on Saturday 26th October for a community celebration of the waterfront. More details to follow!
You can find out more about the proposed supermarket development and how we are trying to stop it here.
Thank you for your continued support.
With best wishes,
Helensburgh Community Council
