Thank you for signing our petition to stop a supermarket on Helensburgh's waterfront.

Last weekend we asked you to write to your local councillors and ask why they are supporting a development with a supermarket at the waterfront when so many people in the community do not want a supermarket there?

Many of you also turned up in person to ask questions about the waterfront plans at the Helensburgh and Lomond Area Committee, on Tuesday 10th September at the Civic Centre in Helensburgh. This is the committee of local councillors that was involved in the selection of a developer with plans for a supermarket on Helensburgh's waterfront.

The meeting was a shambles. Despite huge public concern, the waterfront was not on the agenda. People couldn't hear. Questions went unanswered. Questions sent in advance were not given to the councillors.

One local resident shared his thoughts about the meeting on Facebook: 
"It was unreal, I've never seen anything like it in my life... One of the questions was 'why were many of our last set of questions not answered yet?' I wish I was joking."

Peter Brown, convenor of Helensburgh Community Council says:

We are shocked by the staggering lack of engagement with the community at Tuesday's area committee. There was no attempt to answer our questions.

It is clear the people of Helensburgh care deeply about our waterfront and its role in the future of our town. We do not want a supermarket on the waterfront - and we want elected councillors who listen to their community.
