Dear Supporter
Thank you for signing the petition to stop a supermarket on Helensburgh's waterfront.
On Tuesday 10th September the Helensburgh and Lomond Area Committee meet at 9.30am at Helensburgh's Civic Centre. This is the committee of local councillors that was involved in the selection of a developer with plans for a supermarket on Helensburgh's waterfront.
This meeting is in public and members of the public can ask questions of the councillors. This is an ideal opportunity to ask the councillors why they are supporting a development with a supermarket at the waterfront when so many people in the community do not want a supermarket there?
You can send in your question in advance by contacting the Democratic Services Assistant on 01546 604043. You can also attend the meeting and ask your question directly.
Other questions you could ask include:
- Will Argyll and Bute Council's new administration pause the waterfront development process to review the evidence that has been used to select a developer with plans to build a supermarket?
- Why was a retail study from 2007 used to assess the impact of any retail development on the waterfront in 2024?
- Why were only 83 people consulted to assess the views of the community?
- Why is the area committee trying to move the skatepark away from the waterfront against the wishes of the skatepark group, Helensburgh Community Council and many others?
The petition has reached over 2600 signatories. This much support will be noticed by Argyll and Bute Council. Please keep sharing the petition and asking your friends, family and neighbours to sign it as well.
Thank you for your support.
