A proposed solar farm in our rural neighborhood of Towamensing Township,  PA is causing significant concern among the local community. Like many of you, I chose to live in this serene and picturesque area because of its clean environment and close-knit community. However, the planned solar farm threatens not only the beauty and tranquility of our surroundings but also poses potential health and environmental risks.

Solar farms, while beneficial in reducing global carbon emissions, can have negative consequences on local ecosystems and residents. Studies have shown that the installation of solar panels can lead to habitat destruction, soil erosion, and alteration of local water patterns, potentially affecting local wildlife and plant life. In Pennsylvania, this could further endanger native species already at risk.

Additionally, solar farms are known to release electromagnetic fields (EMFs), which can have adverse health effects on individuals residing nearby. These effects range from mild discomfort to, as some studies suggest, more serious long-term health issues—although this is an area needing further scientific research.

Another pressing concern is the impact on property values. The presence of a solar farm can significantly diminish residential property values in the vicinity by altering the landscape and perceived desirability of the area. Our homes are often our most significant investments, and a drop in property value could severely affect our financial security.

We kindly urge local government officials, planners, and stakeholders to reconsider this development and explore alternative energy projects that do not encroach upon rural residential areas. Eco-friendly energy solutions that preserve natural habitats and consider residents' well-being should be prioritized.

If this commercial solar field is allowed in this Township, there is no stopping even more.
