Stop the slaughter of horses

Stop the slaughter of horses
The Issue
Horses have always held a special place in my heart, providing not only admiration but a profound connection and source of strength. They've been there during tough times, offering comfort and a sense of calm through their gentle and intelligent nature. It breaks my heart to know that every year, thousands of these incredible animals are needlessly shipped long distances, often injured and terrified, only to meet a cruel fate — slaughtered for meat or profit.
The trust and companionship horses bring to so many of us go beyond words. Whether they work alongside us, offer companionship, or simply stand by to share quiet moments, they give so much of themselves. It is our responsibility to ensure their protection in return. Yet, despite knowing what wonderful companions they are, the cruel practice of horse slaughter continues.
In the United States alone, over 30,000 horses are sent to Canada and Mexico for slaughter each year, based only on a misconception of them as mere livestock. These transport journeys are torturous, bearing evidence of a desperate need for change. The ineffectiveness of existing laws to protect these sentient beings highlights a profound injustice we must fight to correct.
I urge lawmakers to enforce a federal ban on horse slaughter and the export of horses for slaughter. Closing this loophole requires swift legislative action to end the cruelty. By revising laws and honoring the SAFE Act (Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act), we can ensure that these noble creatures are given the sanctuary they deserve.
This is not just about animals; it’s about recognizing the spirit of creatures that have been trusted companions throughout history and in personal lives like mine. Help us end the age-old tradition of cruelty towards horses by standing together to make a difference.
Please sign this petition to protect our horses and demand an end to this barbaric practice. Together, we can make a humble yet impactful step towards preserving the dignity and lives of these magnificent animals.
