This petition seeks to inform the general public about the utter human rights violations that happened (quite recently) in the Judge Rotenberg Center. The reason which I am making this petition is because I have only recently heard about this absolute atrocity, and what’s worse, it is, in some ways, continuing on to this day. To give a basic summery, though I would strongly suggest reading the article, the Judge Rotenberg Center, or JRC, is a place to “help” disabled individuals, specifically mentally challenged individuals, to learn and live. Of their many strategies to achieve this, one of them includes a type of Electronic Therapy, which involves discouraging unwanted behaviors by administering strong electric shocks to the patient’s body, some of which have been known to leave terrible burns and blisters on the bodies, and are classified by the United Nations as Torture. Now, as I say, I am not entirely sure of the current situation, however I do know that there is still electric therapy strategies being implemented there, at the express opposition of the government, who has officially banned the practice, however on the local level, it is still legal. Please, help to make these sorts of barbaric practices things of the past, that we may make a better future for all.
