Stop the Serenity Landing Housing Development

Stop the Serenity Landing Housing Development
The Issue
The once-peaceful community around Oak, Bruce, Farrell, and Briggs in Lockport, IL, is now standing on the brink of a disruptive transformation – a 640-unit housing and apartment development that threatens to bring chaos. As a resident or someone with close ties who cherishes the calm and safety of this neighborhood, I am deeply concerned about the irreversible impact this development will have.
With the addition of potentially 2000 new residents, the already congested traffic situation is set to worsen. The roads that we rely on daily have reached their capacity, making each commute stressful and dangerous due to distracted and aggressive drivers. This development only exacerbates those safety risks, creating a hazardous environment for current residents, frequent visitors, and wildlife.
Moreover, our local Fairmont School District 89 simply cannot support an influx of 200+ new students. The district is already operating close to full capacity, and adding more students will strain its resources beyond breaking point, severely impacting the quality of education and community spirit.
The Serenity Landing development isn't just a threat to our roads and schools - it also endangers the well-being of the neighborhoods long established equestrian and farming communities. Ranches and farms are an important component of the local economy and are vital to the diversity of our historic neighborhood. Overdevelopment and increased traffic place these lifestyles at risk. The health and tranquility of our horses and farms, which contribute richly to the fabric of our neighborhood, are at risk. Dense multi-family apartments and townhomes leads to more traffic, more stress on community resources and more pollution that threatens community health and safety.
The damage from such a massive project is insurmountable, yet preventable. We must unite as a community to oppose this development, to protect our neighborhoods, schools, and communities as they are meant to be.
I urge residents and frequent visitors to the proposed Serenity Landing Development area around Oak, Bruce, Farrell, and Briggs to join me in signing this petition. Let's send a strong message to local authorities and developers that we do not support this project. Our priority is the safety, welfare, and quality of life for current and future generations. Please sign this petition to halt the progress of this housing development and preserve the integrity of our community. Together, we can make a difference.
