Stop the Robbery! Investigate The Board of Public Utilities KCK
The Issue
Citizens of Wyandotte County, Kansas Petitions the FBI’s Public Integrity Section Division, the Department of Securities & Exchangeand the Federal Trade Commission to thoroughly investigate the corruption of the Board of Public Utilities (BPU), a non-profit public utility, located in Kansas City, Kansas.
The citizens of Wyandotte County believe that the elected leadership, appointed leadership, and paid staff may not be acting in good faith when citizens voice their complaints in regards to their monthly bills. In addition, the citizens of Wyandotte County believe there is a historical pattern of institutional racism and bias against the struggling poor and or people of color.
We believe that BPU operates in a system which is highly unjust based on the vast discrepancies with customer bills from the urban core vs. those in Western Wyandotte County, Kansas. In essence, we believe that the BPU’s meter reading policies and overall metering policies are unfair, unjust, and highly biased.
We are asking for an investigation based on the following:
Certain areas of Wyandotte County and its residents are charged higher rates in the Northeast and Southeast Section of Wyandotte County
Certain residents are harassed by BPU’s leadership and staff if initial complaints are made in regard to high rates and bills
BPU’s leadership and staff will retaliate against Wyandotte County residents when complaints occur
Residents are discriminated against by zip codes
Consumer protection rights have been violated when customers are shut off during the winter months and the Cold Weather Rule was changed to benefit BPU
BPU’s hiring practices are highly questionable
