Uttarakhand is no stranger to devastating cloud bursts, flash floods, and landslides. Every year, we witness nature’s fury and the loss it causes to lives, homes, and livelihoods. Despite this, the authorities have proposed constructing an elevated road directly over the Rispana River, with pillars to be built in the middle of the riverbed.

This project poses severe environmental and safety risks:

Obstructed river flow – increasing the risk of floods and erosion during heavy rains.
Higher vulnerability to disasters – pillars in the riverbed could intensify the impact of cloud bursts.
Massive deforestation – destroying crucial green cover that protects our ecosystem.
We cannot allow short-term infrastructure goals to endanger the safety, environment, and heritage of Uttarakhand. Alternative routes such as existing main roads must be explored instead of sacrificing rivers and forests.

We urge the government to cancel this project and adopt a sustainable, disaster-resilient approach to development.
