The Issue

Council tax in Ayrshire is on the rise yet again, impacting countless families and residents who are already feeling the strain of previous increases. Last year, council tax rose significantly, and now particularly North Ayrshire we are facing an additional 8.5% hike. This is more than three times the current rate of inflation, and yet, the services we receive are not reflecting the steep costs we are being asked to bear.

One of the most glaring issues is the deteriorating state of our roads. Potholes and other damages make daily commutes hazardous and further degrade the quality of life in our communities. Despite the substantial council tax bills we pay, it seems the funds are not being allocated effectively towards maintaining and improving essential infrastructure.

Moreover, there are additional costs piling up. Residents are already paying factor fees for simple maintenance tasks like tree trimming, a basic service that should be covered by our existing council tax contributions. It's unjustifiable for residents to face such exorbitant demands on their finances without seeing equivalent returns in the form of community improvements or service enhancements.

We propose that the investigation into council expenditure becomes a priority and that there is increased transparency in how taxpayer money is being utilized. Furthermore, alternatives to perpetual tax hikes should be explored, such as improving efficiency in service provision and prioritizing essential services that directly impact the community's well-being.

We urge the councils in Ayrshire to reconsider this proposed tax increase, explore more sustainable solutions, and ultimately, to ensure that the residents' voices are heard and acted upon. With your support, we can drive meaningful change and work towards a council tax system that is fair, justified, and reflects the actual services provided.

Please sign this petition to stop the rise in council tax and advocate for better fiscal responsibility within North Ayrshire, South Ayrshire & East Ayrshire Together, we can make our community a better and more affordable place to live.
