Stop the Rigged Congressional Map in North Carolina

Stop the Rigged Congressional Map in North Carolina
The Issue
North Carolina’s legislature has just passed a new congressional map that is not about fair representation. It is about rigging elections. The map would shift North Carolina’s congressional delegation from a balanced 7 Democrats and 7 Republicans to 11 Republicans and just 3 Democrats, despite the state being nearly evenly divided politically.
This is gerrymandering at its worst. It is a deliberate effort to silence voters, especially in competitive and diverse districts like the First Congressional District. The map strips away counties with large Black populations and adds heavily Republican areas to tip the scales in favor of one party.
State lawmakers have redrawn the congressional map five times in just six years. They are using a recent state Supreme Court ruling to justify this manipulation, even though 84 percent of North Carolinians—Republicans, Democrats, and Independents—oppose partisan gerrymandering. This is not about population balance or the Constitution. It is about keeping power.
We are calling on the North Carolina General Assembly to repeal this map and pass legislation to create an independent redistricting commission. This commission must be transparent, nonpartisan, and accountable to the public, not to politicians.
We also call on every North Carolina voter to speak out, stay engaged, and demand fair maps that reflect real communities, not political calculations.
This is not just about one election. It is about the future of democracy in North Carolina. When lawmakers draw maps to protect their own power, the people lose their voice.
Sign this petition if you believe elections should be fair, maps should be honest, and every vote in North Carolina should count equally.
