The Issue

Brooksville, FL is privileged to have natural and serene spots that are becoming increasingly hard to find. However, plans are underway to rezone our beloved land on Lake Lindsey Rd. This immediate threat could drastically alter the landscape we hold dear and disrupt the local flora and fauna that add to our town's rich biodiversity. According to the 2019 Hernando County Comprehensive Plan, the preservation of our natural resources is not only a priority but a responsibility we have to future generations (Hernando County Planning and Zoning Department, 2019).

We also cannot overlook the impact this rezoning could have on our community. The quiet, small-town charm and appeal of Brooksville would be irrevocably changed with an influx of big-box retailers or commercial buildings. Moreover, according to the American Planning Association, rezoning for commercial purposes can often lead to higher property taxes for nearby residents, potentially making living here unaffordable for some (American Planning Association, 2016).

Make your voice heard, for the sake of our town, our nature, our community. Sign this petition to oppose the rezoning plans for Lake Lindsey Rd.

The applicant is wanting to rezone the land on Lake Lindsey Rd from Agricultural to Recreation and Resort Residential with deviations. If this gets approved, what they are wanting to do is put two (2) golf courses on this property. An 18 hole course on the north side and a 12 hole course on the south. They are also asking to put up to 30 buildings on the property in a central area. In this area it would include: a clubhouse, resort buildings (to possibly include cottages), a restaurant, pro shop, maintenance, and more.

There is a public meeting on 11/4 at 9am at the Brooksville courthouse in room 160 to discuss these changes. This meeting is the postponed meeting from the 9/9 meeting. Please join us if you can, to show we do not want this to happen.
