Stop the Rezoning of Rossdale Golf Course to Preserve Vital Green Space

The issue

As a local resident, I have experienced firsthand the beauty and tranquility of the Rossdale Golf Course in Aspendale, VIC. Most days, I walk past its back fence line and observe numerous birds including Black Cockatoos, Tawny Frogmouths, and Royal Spoonbills feeding on its grounds. After rain, the sound of frogs from this area is nearly deafening - a testament to its rich biodiversity.

A change to the zoning of the golf course will be required before development can take place.  We are seeking to stop the rezoning of Rossdale Golf Course that would allow housing development.  This type of development would not only destroy vital habitat, it would also clog our already busy side streets as there is no main road access to Rossdale.

The Rossdale Golf Course is not just a recreational space; it's also home to several threatened bird species due to its proximity to Ramsar listed Edithvale-Seaford wetlands. It represents one of the last remnants of the once extensive Carrum Carrum Swamp. The proposed rezoning and redevelopment plan may threaten this vital habitat.

On a personal note, this green space has been instrumental in my daughter's mental health recovery journey. Her treatment-resistant condition will only dissipate during walks along the back fence line at Rossdale - an experience that could be lost if it were converted into housing.

We understand that development is necessary for community growth but not at the expense of our environment or well-being. We urge you to reconsider your decision and explore alternative sites for housing development that do not disrupt such vital habitats or community resources.

Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving our natural spaces for future generations' health and enjoyment while protecting threatened species' habitats.
