My special needs child and I live peacefully next to the proposed rezoning site for AR to C4 at 5100 Hwy 301 N. Our tranquility places are in jeopardy. This zoning change could dramatically increase traffic and business activity in our quiet residential neighborhood.

In fact, data from the National Association of City Transportation Officials show that zoning changes, like from AR to C4, can result in an increase of up more than 60% in traffic flow (NACTO, 2019). An increase in traffic and noise at this level represents a significant disruption for families, and more specifically, a potential torment for children with special needs who often need quiet and stability.

Furthermore, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association has highlighted the negative effects increased noise-levels and distractions can have on children, especially those with special needs (ASHA, 2012). We should keep our residential areas suitable for everybody, especially those among us who are most vulnerable.
