Stop the Restriction of YouTube, Roblox and WhatsApp in Australia

Stop the Restriction of YouTube, Roblox and WhatsApp in Australia
The issue
*(This petition is about not banning YouTube, Roblox, Discord, Stack Overflow, Pinterest and WhatsApp for under 16s. The rest of social media should be banned for under 16s.)
I am deeply concerned about the proposed restrictions that aim to prohibit access to platforms such as YouTube, ROBLOX, Discord, Stack Overflow, WhatsApp, and Pinterest for those under 16. This proposed law impinges on our children's ability to learn, foster creativity, be inspired, and socialize in a controlled environment. These platforms not only provide entertainment and connection, but they also offer opportunites for education and idea exchange.
Statistics show that in our digital age, every third child in Australia uses the internet to learn outside of traditional educational settings (Australian Institute for Family Studies, 2017). This suggests a significant potential of internet platforms when properly used.
Targeting social media platforms with a blanket age restriction does not reflect the diverse nature of these websites. YouTube, for instance, holds a vast array of educational content. Similarly, Stack Overflow is a programming Q&A hub which fosters learning regardless of a user's age.
While understanding the need to protect minors on the internet, a one-size-fits-all approach is ineffective and regressive. From my personal perspective, limiting these services to 16+ is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Instead, let us work towards more nuanced regulatory frameworks that respect various platform use-cases while ensuring online safety for our children.
Let's unite and urge the Australian government to reconsider this approach. Please sign this petition and support the cause.
