As the 2024-2025 school year is in full swing now, I have something that needs to be brought to everyone's attention, regardless of whether you are 10 in 6th grade or 16 in 8th grade.

Several teachers have made policies that restrict bathroom usage in school. This can reduce focus in school, or even increase distraction significantly in students already preparing to drop out of school the very day they turn 17 years old.

Holding your pee has also been linked to Uriniary Tract Infections (UTIs), which makes forcing students to hold their pee even more inhumane. From personal experience, it takes about 40 minutes from the minute you feel something in your bladder until it hurts like crazy and you can't hold it. This can be as low as 5-8 minutes if you have recently drank a lot water. Considering a class is 45 minutes long, students will be distracted.

Today, October 19th, 2024, we are asking that students should be allowed to use the bathroom when needed. We are not asking for the school to give us all the privilege to screw around in the hallway for 8+ minutes, but to simply let us use the bathroom when we need it. 

Should students abuse policy, the student should have to use the bathroom in the nurses office and have the nurse sign a pass for one week. NEVER suggest losing the right to use the bathroom.

In conclusion, allowing students to use the bathroom when they need to use the bathroom in school can allow them to be more productive, and increase their overall wellbeing. I urge you to sign this petition.
