Hydrogen Trials: GIVE REDCAR A VOTE!
The Issue
GIVE REDCAR A PUBLIC DEBATE & VOTE
Hydrogen has been touted as the 'silver bullet' in the last few years, with discussions being pushed by lobbyists from the fuel industry.
Since then, there have been plans to force trials into residential areas, without any protection of due dilligence built into the plans by the local council.
Government have allowed gas distribution networks free reign to manipulate, scam and pressure unwilling residents into a trial - which has since been refuted as having any meaningful part in decarbonisation.
Our Redcar residents have demanded an independant vote and public debate (as was set up in Whitby, by their Labour Council) but this is being refused.
Regardless as to how people think hydrogen may or may not be the future, we musnt lose sight that these trials are being done 'to' a community and definitely not 'with'.
We have independant experts, who helped in Whitby (Ellesmere Port) willing to provide information - but our MP and councillors refuse to engage, and instead, point the finger to the government.
By signing this petition you are supporting our case to demand an independant debate and vote.
These trials are:
- Futile, as Government has since confirmed that 'policy remains that heat pumps will be the main solution for decarbonising heat in the UK
- Costing the UK taxpayer millions! To date £6 million has been wasted on this Redcar marketing campaign
- Hydrogen is significantly inefficient as a fuel, no matter which way it is created
- Hydrogen may not produce carbon monoxide, but it does create NOx (Nitrogen Oxide)
- Due to the costly processing needed to create hydrogen, these costs will inevitably be passed on to the consumer
- A recent expert report makes clear it is almost impossible to prevent hydrogen leakage into the atmosphere. And as hydrogen is 37x more potent than carbon dioxide when it comes to warming our planet over the all-important next 20 years this could be absolutely disastrous!
