Stop the rent increase for Dockside IMR residents
The Issue
OVER 18%. That’s the increase residents at Dockside are being asked to absorb.
We love our homes and our community, but a rent increase of this scale could put real financial pressure on residents and families who chose Intermediate Market Rent because it was supposed to offer an affordable alternative to full market rents.
We are normal people. We work full-time, and we give back to our community.
We are already dealing with rising food, energy, transport and everyday living costs, as are our neighbours. On top of this, residents are already committed to business-rate, building-related bills and charges, which add significant costs to living at Dockside. We are also locked into for-profit energy suppliers that we cannot move away from.
An 18% rent increase isn’t just a number on a spreadsheet.
It’s more money leaving our pockets every month, on top of the costs we are already paying to live here. It’s money leaving the pockets of our residents. Money that could go towards our neighbours’ children’s after-school classes, the food on our tables, or money we could spend within our local community to support Leith.
We don’t want to be priced out of the homes and community we’ve built. This is our home. We are not a London investment project.
IMR exists to help people who don’t qualify for social housing but who can struggle to afford market rents. We believe residents deserve transparency about why this increase is necessary, a meaningful opportunity to be heard, and a genuine conversation about whether such a significant increase is fair and sustainable for us.
This isn’t just about one household. It’s about our whole community.
We are asking the organisations responsible for Dockside to listen to residents, reconsider the proposed increase and meet with us to find a fairer solution. Whether this means lowering the increase or scrapping it altogether.
