Thank you so much for signing the Faversham Society’s petition against the renaming of the Faversham path known for generations as the Shooting Meadow Path, as Queen Matilda Place.
To date, almost 950 of you have signed. But Faversham Town Council, on its presentation to the Council Meeting on 14th July, have rejected our petition. FTC considered the 340 petitioners with Faversham addresses was insufficiently significant.
This is astonishing since there is still no evidence of ANY support for the change. In fact, only 4 Counsellors voted for it at the meeting.
Nevertheless, that matter has been passed to Swale Borough Council, and it has wasted no time posting notices of intent to rename the path.
However, we are not defeated. The Battle of the Shooting Meadows Path is not yet over. If you live in Swale, you can help us appeal.
Please write to: The Magistrates’ Court at Medway, (Chatham), The Court House, The Brook, Chatham, ME4 4LJ the court must receive it by 7 August.

It can be short – just a couple of sentences to say why you are aggrieved by the name change. That the path has a name – it has been called the Shooting Meadow Path for generations and, if it can’t formally be called that, we would rather it were left as it is.
If you want to know why the Swale Council has taken the decision to do something that doesn’t need to be done, while ignoring so many genuine local needs…. I’d advise you to ask the man in charge. There’s an ‘Ask the Leader’ button on the SBC website, which promises an answer within 10 days.
Thanks for helping us
