As a resident of Lakewood, my quiet neighborhood has become increasingly disturbed by the roar of planes, jets and helicopters from the Lee's Summit Airport. Every homeowner values peace and tranquility, but ours is threatened by the deafening noise of low-flying aircrafts. Not only is the noise unbearable, but it has tangible effects on our property, causing items to fall off walls and resulting in stress fractures in our drywall.

Our concerns don't end there. There is a proposal to change the name of Lee's Summit airport to "Kansas City regional" or a similar title. This renaming is feared to be more than just a label change; it could welcome an unprecedented increase in air traffic that we are ill-prepared to handle. More air traffic means more noise and potential structural damage to our homes.

We understand the importance of air travel and regional growth. However, the Lee's Summit Airport was meant to be a community resource, not a constant source of disturbance. There were promises of stringent curtesy rules to mitigate noise, but disappointingly, these rules have been ignored and unenforced.
