Stop the Removal of Winter Fuel Allowance for Working Pensioners

Stop the Removal of Winter Fuel Allowance for Working Pensioners
The Issue
I am a 68-year-old nurse who is still working despite receiving my pension. Like many, I consider myself fortunate to have a pension. However, some of my colleagues are not as fortunate and must work longer before receiving their state pension. These circumstances are not unique to myself, but mirror the experiences of countless other working pensioners across the country. Our hard work to maintain our standard of living is being punished as we are not given pension credits and are losing our winter fuel allowance.
The winter fuel allowance delivers essential support to millions of pensioners during the toughest period of the year. Removing this allowance from working pensioners reduces our ability to cope with the costs of heating during winter, putting our health and wellbeing at risk. The National Energy Action stated that there were 8,500 excess winter deaths caused by cold homes in the winter of 2019/20.
Retraction of those not on pension credits from the winter fuel allowance is, thus, both a financial and a moral issue. A better approach would be to support our pensioners, both those who are still working and those who aren't, rather than impose punitive measures that disadvantage those who have worked hard all their lives.
Help us safeguard the winter fuel allowance for all pensioners. Every signature counts. Please sign this petition.
