Stop the Removal of Three Beautiful, Old Trees in the Zukor Park Playground Renovation

The Issue

I, like many others in our community, have watched the aged, and beautiful trees in our local playground area grow for years. These magnificent trees have stood the test of time, their canopies providing much-needed shade, and their leaves a spectacle of nature's grandeur. Unfortunately, these trees are on the brink of being chopped down due to a playground renovation plan.

It's more than the loss of beauty and shade; these trees play a critical role in our local ecosystem and our health. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, giving us clean air to breathe. They also reduce mental fatigue and encourage outdoor activity among our R&R seekers, especially kids (University of Illinois, 2009). We fear that the loss of these green giants would have a profound impact on our environment, our health, and the identity of our playground.

Do we not have the responsibility to preserve and respect these living landmarks as part of our local heritage? Let us have playground development, but not at the expense of these respected, old trees that have served our community, both young and old, for so many unforgettable summers.

Let us not stand aside and witness their unnecessary downfall. We call out to our local council to reconsider their decision and find a way to integrate these beautiful trees into their renovation plans -- a way that preserves the shade they produce, the beauty they add, and the history they carry. Let us all stand together in saving these trees for the future generation to cherish and enjoy.

Please, add your name to our plea to protect our trees. Sign this petition and tell our local council that our trees are an irreplaceable part of our community.
